The founder and President of Breast care International, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai speaking at a Breast Cancer Education and Clinical Screening programme at Teshie in Accra has encouraged women to continuously examine their breast and avail themselves for screening.

She said early screening will help detect anomalies and help reduce the number of deaths associated with breast cancer.

Dr Wiafe Addai further reiterated that, breast cancer is more common than any other type of cancer and kills faster than HIV and Malaria.

“Breast cancer is a disease that can affect every woman, so we shouldn’t be so scared when we hear about it. If we find it early, we can fix it and cure it. Some women have already been cured in Ghana” she said.

She encouraged women to regularly visit health institutions for screening.

The Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Institute, Major General Richard Addo Gyane also encouraged women to come out boldly to screen for the disease.

He shared a personal encounter of a staff at the institute who had developed a symptom of breast cancer.

“…blood was oozing from the breast, I referred her to Dr Wiafe and it was easily fixed. It did not even cost 5,000 cedis” Major General Richard Addo Gyane noted.

He stated that, early detection is the surest way of combating the disease.

A breast cancer survivor said “in 2018 I was diagnosed with cancer, I did all the treatment and today I am a breast cancer survivor”.

She encouraged women to screen early to save their “breast.”
