Mamelodi Sundowns last night booked their place in the African Football League, AFL final after a 1-0 win from the first leg played in South Africa. The were remarkable despite the pressure poured on them by the Al Ahly fans in Cairo.
They become the first team from South Africa to secure a place in the AFL final after a goalless draw in the second leg despite lasers been flashed on their faces by supporters of Al Ahly.
Goalkeeper Ronen Williams came up big by saving a penalty to keep Sundowns in the game. After all the heroics, Sundowns unfortunately went down by a man when a red card was shown to one of their player.
Mamelodi Sundowns will face Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the final. Wydad came out victorious against Esperance Sportif de Tunis 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been one of the boy houses in African football in recent years. They have had dominance in the CAF champions league and have totally dominated South African football also, thanks to the magic tactics of coach Rhulani Mokwena.
