The Wa Area Head of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Robert Kwabena Andoh has bemoaned what he termed as the growing moral decadence in the country.
He said despite being a highly religious country with a large Christian percentage, the country continues to see its people engaged in immoral and unacceptable behaviour.
Apostle Andoh blamed this development on the promotion of materialism rather than spiritualism by some church leaders.
To reverse this trend, the Wa Area Head of the Church of Pentecost urged Men of God to go beyond preaching the Word of God to living exemplary lives that will lead others to God.
He was speaking at the Church’s 25th Anniversary at Wa in the Upper West Region. The celebration focused on “Making Ready a People Prepared for the Lord.”
Apostle Kwabena Andoh said the theme was proper as it enjoins Christians to prepare and position themselves so that God can make use of them and carry out His will.
The Man of God continued that despite the trial and tribulations that may arise in the life of a Christian, God is keen to always deliver his people thus encouraging Christians to remain true to the Word of God.
The Wa Area Head of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Robert Kwabena Andoh thanked the Chiefs and people of the Upper West Region for their warm reception to the Church of Pentecost.
He said as part of the church’s social responsibilities, proceeds from the celebration would go into the construction of boreholes and schools in selected areas of the region.
“In collaboration with our sponsors, the proceeds from this celebration will be seed-money for the possible provision of bore-holes at Gurumo, Kulkpong, Daffiama and Domwine and two small clinics at Grumbelle and Bonar communities.”
“We have a school in Lawra, we have started one in Nadowli and we are looking forward to starting one [a school] in Wa soon,” he added.
On Sunday 8th August, 1993 the Upper West Regional branch of the Church of Pentecost was inaugurated with Apostle Joseph Albert Mensah as the Regional Head.
The Church which begun with about 1,300 members in four districts now has over 42 thousand members in 26 districts. The Church organized a number of activities which included blood donation exercise and fun games in the run up to the Grand 25th Anniversary and Home Coming Durbar which was characterized by singing and dancing.
The first Area Head of the Church of Pentecost Joseph Albert Mensah who was also at the celebration was enthralled by the massive growth of the church. He charged the new church executives to continue to work in earnest to further the will of God.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin said the theme for the occasion is apt as it is a reminder to Christian and other religious people alike to prepare themselves for the Lord.
The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo in a speech read on his behalf urged the Church of Pentecost to do more in the area of education for the Upper West Region.
The Home coming durbar brought together Assemblies from all the districts in the Upper West Region.
