The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta will on behalf of the President, lay before Parliament, the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government of Ghana for the 2024 Financial Year, today, 15th November, 2023.

The budget will highlight, among others, the performance of the economy, efforts to boost the productive capacity of the economy through the new growth strategy, fiscal measures, and debt management strategies to deepen stability and promote growth.

It is also expected that the budget and economic policy will articulate government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, spell out support for the private sector and implement growth-focused economic policies.

MPs EXPECTATION

Ahead of the budget presentation, MPs say they expect Government to show more fiscal responsible measures for a more stable economy.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu says he expects government to reinstate the Fiscal Responsibility Act, in the 2024 Budget presentation tomorrow.

The Act which requires censuring of Ministers of Finance if they record a budget deficit of above 5% was suspended in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Idrissu contends that the law must return to serve as a check on the Minister, especially, going into the 2024 elections.

Ningo Prampram MP, Samuel George also said he expects a budget with a lot of cost cutting hinged on the prescription of the IMF.
