The final funeral rite for the late former First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, has been held in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi, with President Akufo-Addo leading hundreds of Ghanaians and well-wishers to mourn with the widower, John Agyekum Kufuor.

The funeral was also attended by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and a host of state functionaries.

Also there to sympathise with the bereaved family and the former first family of Ghana was a large retinue of chiefs from Ashanti led by the Omanhene of Kumawu, Barima Sarfo Kantanka, who stood in for the Asantehene with the Asantehene’s Apagyahene, Nana Owusu Afriyie, in whose lineage former President Kufuor is a royal.

The Omanhemaa of Awuadomase in the Bono region, hometown of the late Mrs Theresa Kufuor, Nana Owusuaa Ayebiafo, also led her subjects to mourn their departed daughter with the Regent of Mion, Naa Alhassan Abdulai, representing the Yaa Naa.

The political parties, the corporate world, religious faiths, high, middle and low-level members of society were all represented.

The funeral was characterised by drumming and dancing, especially by an Asafo Group from the Central region, amidst the incessant firing of musketry to signify the importance of the personality of the late  Mrs. Theresa Kufuor to them.
