Ghana must have a code of conduct all citizens abide by regardless of which party is in power– Rev Dr Deegbe

A former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana and a Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Frederick P. Deegbe is advocating for the promulgation of a national code of conduct that all citizens will abide by without fail, regardless of which political party is in power.

According to him, the current system is where political parties in government-run governance of the nation based on political manifestoes.

“As a country, we must have a code we abide by without fail, regardless of which party is in power,” he reiterated.

Rev. Deegbe, made the call when addressing participants at the fourth edition of the National Christian Forum dubbed 2023 National Christian Forum (NCF23), in Accra.

The three-day forum which was organised by the Advocates for Christ Ghana (A4CG), a Christian Non-profit professional group was on the theme: “Election 2024; assessing the impact of Political Parties and how Christians should vote.”

Speaking on the topic; “The Impact of Political Parties on the Church”, the former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana explained that all the nations that have developed had a set of laws and regulations that set the parameters for how systems should be run and every citizen abide by without fail.

Rev. Deegbe is of the view that Ghana can achieve any developmental agenda it sets for itself if there is a national code of conduct that will bond all citizens to abide by without fail, regardless of which political party is in power.

According to him, what the Ghanaian political elites need to do at this moment for the forward march of the country is to operate an open-door policy where jobs and other opportunities are offered on meritocracy, pragmatism, and honesty.

“The secret to the success of a country is a combination of meritocracy, pragmatism, and honesty” Rev. Deegbe emphasized.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IKON, Mr. George Prah, said past and current leaders have paid lip services when it comes to the private sector even though the sector is the engine that propels growth in any country.

According to him, pragmatic and concrete policies need to be put in place by the government for economic growth.

Committed leadership, he emphasised plays a key role in making Ghana grow as a country.
