The African Cup of Nations gradually gears up as the big names in African football prepare to fight it out in Ivory Coast on 13 January 2024 – 14 February 2024. Can Ghana break the 42-year wait for an AFCON trophy in February?

Ghana has been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the tournament, which will feature 24 countries.

As part of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) tour to the qualified nations ahead of next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast, the AFCON trophy has officially been unveiled in Ghana.

The tour, made possible by the title sponsor of the competition, TotalEnergies, made a stop in Accra on Monday, November 27, and will be moved across other parts of the city. Ghana’s last continental silverware dates back to 1982 in Libya, and a chance presents itself for the Black Stars to break that wait in Ivory Coast after playing and losing in two major finals to record winners Egypt in 2010 and against next year’s host Ivory Coast in 2015.

The weight of an entire nation rests on the shoulders of the Black Stars to win the AFCON title and bring an end to the nation’s trophy drought.
