A mother and her three children have been saved by a rescue team made up of some residents of the Dawhenya community. Due to the high level of floodwater, the mother and her children were stranded in their home, and so a rescue team came to their aid.
As a result of the spillage, about 600 people have been displaced in the community. The dam takes its source from the Aburi Mountains, which help in the cultivation of rice and vegetables in the area.
The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, said, “The dam spillage was caused by the negligence of the management of the dam.”
However, the manager for the Dawhenya Dam project, Samuel Tetteh, also mentioned that “the dam is structured in a way to spill excess water by itself and can therefore not cause flooding.”
