The World Bank Country Director for Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Ghana, Pierre Laporte, has heaped praises on the Government of Ghana, the Communications and Digitalisation Ministry and the Cyber Security Authority for the great strides and achievements in the cyber security space as a developing country.
In his opening remarks at the ongoing inaugural Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building in Accra, Mr.Laporte mentioned that the World Bank is proud to be associated with the global commitment to cyber security. He said his outfit is increasing its lending dedicated to cyber security.
The World Bank currently has around $250M in active pipeline lending which is earmarked for Cyber security across 60 countries.
Touching on Ghana’s achievement in the cyber security space, the Country Director said Ghana is among countries who have good cyber security practices. He added that the success stories of Ghana’s strides in cybersecurity is one that needs to be replicated by other developing Countries.
According to the data from the International Telecommunications Union, Ghana sits first in both Western and Central Africa and third on the continent. This report Mr. Laporte believes is one that needs to be emulated due to the resilient nature of Ghana’s cyber security development.
In his closing remarks, he called on all developing countries to scale up with forward-looking policies and investments to attain impressive strides to become more cyber resilient.
The Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building is a 2-day conference organized by the Government of Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation and the Cyber Security Authority and in partnership from the World Bank, World Economic Forum, Cyber Peace Institute and Global Forum on Cyber Expertise.
