The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has organized the Maiden Day with the Diplomatic Community at Burma Camp in Accra. This initiative is to build strong ties between the Diplomatic Community, coordinating and co-operating together for future engagements.
The Chief Director at the Ministry, Ambassador Ramses Cleland, said Ghana cherishes the great bond with the Diplomatic Community, and believes this event will further foster community spirit and strengthen cooperation.
The Day with the Diplomatic Community is an event that seeks to foster community spirit and friendships among staff of the Ministry Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and members and families of the Diplomatic Community through sporting and cultural activities.
The Ministry, says although it devotes so much in its bilateral engagements, regional and global institutions, there is the need to engage beyond the meeting rooms and invest in memories that can yield great friendships, partnerships and kindle a spirit of oneness amongst the community.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ambassador Ramses Cleland, said the day is going to be an annual activity to build strong ties with the diplomatic community.
“This Ministry is a firm believer in the power that culture holds in connecting peoples across borders, and I must say that Ghana is particularly lucky to be home to a diplomatic community who enrich our country’s experience by embracing our unique cultures while sharing their countries music, art, food, language, culture and sports with us through various channels.” Ambassador Cleland said’.

On behalf of the Diplomatic Community, Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, who is also the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, Maher Kheir commended the Ministry for the initiative.
“I am truly delighted to be with you in this amazing day : A Day with the Diplomatic Community”, an Excellent initiative coming from the Ministry because this event brings together staff of this Ministry and
members of the Diplomatic Community (Diplomats and their families) in sporting and cultural activities and also let us discover and enjoy many cuisines from different continents. For sure this event fosters community spirit, strengthens cooperation and friendships between peoples and countries.” H.E. Maher Kheir.
“On Behalf of the Diplomatic corps, I extend my gratitude to the esteemed ministry for this significant initiative hoping that we will keep coordinating and cooperating together to live more and more similar exciting experiences in the future” he added.
The Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, Anette Chao Garcia, expressed appreciation to Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the event, adding that it offered the diplomatic community in Ghana the opportunity to meet and interact with each other.
” It is an opportunity to be healthy in mind and sports is a very important activity for human beings. I hope 2024 will be better and i urged it would become a regular annual event for them.” Mrs Chao Garcia
It was a fun-filled day with sumptuous meals by countries including Lebanon, Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, Peru, Libya, France and Ghana.
There was also some carefully planned outdoor games and cultural activities including, aerobics, sack race, football, lime and spoon race, 50 metres athletics race, oware, ludo, checkers, musical chair dance, and karaoke.
Winners for the activities were presented with medals and trophies.
