Accra: New Force spokeswoman re-arrested after court dismisses case

The District Court, Kanashie, has struck out charges against Shalimar Abbiusi, a Belgian, who was arraigned on charges related to the alleged falsification of documents to obtain a resident permit in Ghana.

The magistrate who presided over the case, Nana Abena Owusu Amenyo, also ordered, the release of Miss Abbiusi’ phone, by the NIB.

The Court dismissed the case, after Assistant Commissioner of Immigration representing the Republic, Adolf Aboagye Asenso, told the court he has instructions to withdraw the case and come back at the appropriate time.

In a significant development, Shalimar Abbiusi, has been re-arrested by the immigration service, after court.

Shalimar Abbiusi, one of the spokespersons of a new political group called “The New Force”, was arrested and charged for violating section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573), with specific provision of “Obtaining for Yourself a Student Permit by False Declaration.”

She was arraigned December 11, and granted bail, in the sum of Ghs20,000.

Returning to Court on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, prosecuting, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, Adolf Aboagye Asenso, withdrew the charges against the 30-year old Belgium citizen, informing the Court, the decision, was per the instructions of high authorities, for due diligence to be taken, regarding the matter.

Francis Sosu, Lawyer for the accused, describing the move prosecution as within their mandate, however, prayed the Court, for the release of his client’s IPhone 13, which is said to be in the possession of the NIB.

Per Mr Sosu’s argument in Court, NIB confirmed that, they did not find anything incriminatory on the phone. He asked for the phone’s immediate release of the accused personal property.

The lawyer, also made some allegations against the prosecution, stating that, prosecution had verbally said they were going to deport his client.

The magistrate, Nana Abena Owusu Amenyo, after listening to the parties, concluded on the matter, by dropping the charges , as per the prayer of the prosecution.
