Black Stars Coach, Chris Hughton has released the 55-man provisional squad list ahead of January’s AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire. The list has lots of new names including 11 local based players making a cut in there.
The squad will eventually be trimmed down to 27 players ahead of the tournament after CAF told the participating nations to add four more players to the initial 23 players for the tournament.
Players like Bernard Tekpetey, Andy Yiadom and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh have been named in the provisional squad after some time out of the team. Baba Rahman, after some time out since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar finds his name in the list.
The 11 local players, headlined by Jonathan Sowah and Abdul Fatawu Hamidu who maintained their spot in the squad , includes players like Derrick Fordjour, Razak Simpson, George Atuahene, Felix Kyei, Benjamin Asare, Emmanuel Antwi, John Antwi and Richmond Lamptey.
All 24 participating teams are expected to submit their final 23 man squad which can be increased to a maximum of 27 following a green light given by CAF to all teams heading to Cote d’Ivoire. The list are expected to be submitted by January 3, 2024.
