Traders at the Mallam market have shared their opinions about the FDA’s cautioning the general public on expired food products during the holiday season.
The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has warned the general public to be cautious when buying any food products this holiday season.
This is because, during the holiday season, most items are often marketed under the guise of promotions and discounted prices.
As a result of the education from the FDA to the public, traders at the Mallam market have also shared their thoughts on what people should look out for when buying food products this festive season.
In an interview with one of the traders, Aunty Ama, she mentioned that it is important for the public to be careful and also check the expiration dates before buying any food items. She said that it is better to be safe than to be sorry, especially during the holiday season as people tend to indulge in a lot of food.
Another trader, Mr. Amponsah, highlighted that, it is a good reminder for everyone because sometimes people get carried away with the celebrations and forget to check the food they buy. He urged the general public to support the Food and Drug Authority’s (FDA) effort to keep everyone safe.
Also, Mame Efe, a buyer, said that when buying food products, inspect the packaging for signs of damage or if it has been tampered with. She added that it is important to look out for proper labeling and certification on the products if the FDA or any other relevant regulatory body’s seal of approval is on it to indicate that the products have met safety standards.
In addition, Julliet, who is a trader, urged the public to pay attention to the product’s appearance.
“Look out for signs of spoilage like; discoloration, mold or any strange smell on the product”.
She again mentioned that, the FDA’s caution has made an impact as some customers even opt for customized hampers where they can choose the specific products they want as hamper to ensure they are all within the exploring dates.
