The Koforidua Youth Resource Centre was commissioned on Wednesday 27th December 2023 by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo in the Eastern Region.
The commission of the Koforidua Youth Resource centre outlined the commitment of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to spearhead the developmental process of sports in Ghana and the nurturing young talent to compete in all sporting events for mother Ghana.
The commission of the stadium in Koforidua marks the first of 10 multi-purpose stadium yet to be commissioned. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif revealed that, the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre is just the first of the 10, with plans on commissioning nine other similar facilities across the country.
Aside the President of the Republic, President Nana Addo and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, the event had some heads of sports showing up to make the occasion a success.
In attendance was the Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, the CEO of the National Youth Agency,Pius Enam Hadzide and Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III.
The facility holds the standard of a high-quality athletic track, a basketball court, and an evergreen football pitch, gymnasium, IT hub and a restaurant.
“In the history of Ghana, no President has a better record in the provision of sports infrastructure than President Nana Akufo-Addo. The evidence is clear, and the impact on sports development at all levels is undeniable,” said Hon. Mustapha Ussif.
He further added that, Ghanaians should be motivated by this project and embrace the 13th African Games with much support in order to make the event a successful one for Ghana and all the visiting countries.
