The Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs has unanimously pledged its unflinching support for Ghana’s candidate for the next Commonwealth Secretary-General position, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, as they believe it will boost Africa’s standing in the comity of nations.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, met the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs on 2nd February 2024.
The objective of the meeting was to formally inform the members of the committee of her nomination by the President as Ghana’s candidate for the next Secretary-General of the Commonwealth (CW), at elections scheduled to take place during the 27th CHOGM in Samoa in October 2024.
Madam Ayokor Botchwey shared her vision for the Commonwealth by enumerating 6 areas as her key areas for repositioning the CW for the benefit of the Commonwealth family. She sought the support of the Committee in her current endeavour to project Ghana positively in the comity of nations.
The committee added that her wealth of experience and sterling performance in world affairs make her apt for the position and therefore firmly confirm their endorsement of her candidacy.
