Head of Public Affairs Department of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Fifii Boafo has justified the Board’s approval of the importation of over 3,000 tonnes of cocoa beans by a local company from Ivory Coast and Nigeria, calling it a “normal procedure”.

According to him, Ghana’s cocoa beans are the highest quality in the world. However, the Board takes such decisions to meet the recipe requirement and operational cost of the local companies.

“In a situation where our highest quality cocoa beans is more pricey, people will want to buy the less quality from other countries and blend it with what we have here in Ghana “, he explained on TV3

He also explained that the practice of approval of the importation of cocoa beans by the Board has been in existence since 2001.

“It is normal procedure that happens except that there has never been a case where people felt there was a need to put it out there and sort of create disaffection for the Board”, he further explained.

COCOBOD topped trends over the weekend following a document signed by Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo permitting Afrotropic Cocoa Processing Company to import 2,500 tonnes of cocoa beans from Ivory Coast and 1,000 tonnes from Nigeria.
