To encourage its youth to refrain from immoral activities during Valentine’s Day, the Church of Pentecost Russia Assembly organised a special evening programme for members, especially the youth.
The event, dubbed “The Fever of Love,” attracted singles, young couples, and the leadership of the church for an unforgettable treat. They went through sessions such as knowing me, knowing you, charades, and talking on the theme, among others.
Valentine’s Day in the early 2000’s gained notoriety for immorality, with sometimes shortages of sex enhancement products and condoms. To stem this tide, some churches, including the Church of Pentecost, embraced the celebration by organising special evening events for members. This has been geared towards correcting the misconceptions associated with the day and reinforcing the message of sexual and moral purity.
Speaking to an Elder of the church, Kwesi Ampa Junior, he said the annual event is to reinforce the love of God. He asked Christians to strive to be exceptional even in the face of challenges.
“We should be exceptional because that is what we stand for. Christ is an elected person, selected and we those following him should be as such.”
The church, he said, organises the programme every year on Valentine’s Day to engage young people in what may be described as a Christian love-sharing, Love-learning and Love-growing event in accordance with its doctrine on Marriage and Family Life.
Saint Valentine’s Day, also known as Chocolate Day in Ghana, originated as a Christian feast day honouring one of two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine.
