Prof Eric Opoku is UniMAC’s new Acting Vice-Chancellor

The University of Media Arts and Communications has got a new Vice-Chancellor barely a year after its official merger.

The new Vice Chancellor, though in an acting position has served as a deputy Rector and Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, a constituent institute of the university.

Professor Eric Opoku Mensah replaces his former boss, Professor Kwamena Ansah Aidoo, who has retired.

In a statement issued by the University, it mentioned that, Professor Opoku Mensah’s position is to take effect from February 8, 2024.

Prof. Opoku Mensah brings a wealth of experience and expertise in higher education management to this role, having served as the Deputy Rector and later, Rector of the Institute of Journalism, a constituent institute of the University.

The University maintained that, as part of his role, Professor Opoku Mensah is to guide the university to attain its academic excellence pursuit and foster collaboration among faculty, staff and the entire student body.

“In his new capacity, Prof. Opoku Mensah will assume responsibility for guiding UniMAC through its ongoing pursuit of academic excellence, fostering collaboration among faculty, staff, and students, and advancing the university’s mission of becoming a globally recognized centre for excellence in the training of media, arts and communication professionals”, the statement reads.
