Local Government Minister designate promises good governance and balanced development

The Minister of State Designate for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has visioned well-adjusted growth and good governance in all communities in Ghana, in line with the President’s vision to develop Ghana.

According to the Minister, he is committed and ready through departments and agencies under the Ministry to execute the mandate of the Ministry to ensure good governance and balanced development of Metropolitan / Municipal / District Assemblies in accordance with the 1992 constitution of Ghana and Section 12 of the PNDCL 327 which provides the responsibilities of Ministries.

Currently, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah is the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development and a member of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, representing the good people of Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region on the ticket of the Governing New Patriotic Party.

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has been recognised for his commitment to work as an MP and Deputy Minister, supporting his outgoing respected boss, Dan Botwe, in discharging the mandates of the Ministry with respect to its oversight responsibilities over several Government Agencies and Departments through collaboration to promote Local governance and to deepen decentralisation at the local level using Metropolitan / Municipal / District Assemblies as vehicles.

Mr. Korsah used to be the Director of Elections and Research of the New Patriotic Party but decided to enter Parliament, and in the 2020 general elections, he won the Parliamentary seat for the Party with 49,682 votes representing 50.24% of the total votes cast, while the NDC Parliamentary aspirant in person, Christopher Beyere Baasongti, had 49,205 votes, representing 49.76% of the total votes cast.

Following his hard work both at the party level and in the constituency for winning the seat, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed him as the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, a position he held until his elevation to the substantive position subject to parliamentary approval.

Mr. Korsah is a member of the House committee and also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah was born on 12th April 1978 and hails from Techiman in the Bono East Region. He completed his SSSCE in 1998, where he studied Government, History and Christian Religious Studies. He proceeded to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2005 from the University of Ghana and a Master’s Degree in Politics and International Relations in 2007.

Korsah was a basic school coordinator for the Ghana Education Service. He was also the Presiding Member of the Techiman Municipal Assembly and later became the Director of Elections and Research for the New Patriotic Party and now a potential cabinet Minister responsible for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development
