Facilities for African Games cost $195 million – Sports Minister

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has disclosed the cost of all the major facilities ready to host the 2023 African Games in a press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Monday, March 4, 2024. 

The Minister said a total of $USD 195 million was pumped into constructing all the facilities designated to host the 13th African Games in Accra.

The Borteyman Sports Complex, the University of Ghana Stadium, and the Games Village are the major venues headlining the African games.

“The total contract sum for the provision of facilities for the Games, approved by this August House, amounted to $195,2555,153.74. The funding of the projects, relating to the provision of facilities for the hosting and organisation of the Games, was good as all the contractors have been paid,” said Mustapha Ussif.

The Minister revealed to the press a breakdown of the money spent on the various venues constructed for the African games. 

Breakdown: 

Borteyman: $145 million 

UG: $34 million 

Games Village: $16 million
