Team Ghana on Monday, March 4, 2024, was unlucky in their table tennis games, both in the men’s and women’s categories of the African Games, as all participants of Team Ghana were knocked out on the first day.

Although the opening ceremony of the African Games will officially kick off on Friday, March 8, 2024, some disciplines, like table tennis, have already begun with some fascinating scenes that saw athletes from various parts of Africa showcasing their unique abilities.

Team Ghana was presented by players like Commey Emmanuel, Quarcoo Ernest Mawutor, Sam Bernard, and Aklie Israel in the men’s singles, while the women’s singles saw Kwabi Cynthia, Joanita Borteye, Adom Amankwaa, Borquaye Bernice, and Danso Celia competing for the women’s team.

With a well-put-out team from Ghana, their efforts to walk over their opponents in all their matches failed as Aklie Israel and Sam Bernard bowed out with a painful defeat in the hands of Nigeria’s Mathew Kuti and Egypt’s Shouman Mohammed, respectively.

The women’s category saw signs of hope when Danso Celia, Joanita Borteye, Eva Amankwaa, and Kwabi Cynthia won their first game in the table tennis singles, but they were all eliminated in the next round as none of them could make it past the round of 16 stage.
