Kumasi Asante Kotoko hosted Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas on March 5, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the President’s Cup, which is geared towards Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebration on March 6, 2024.

The Porcupine Warriors were unfortunately beaten by 2-1 in a thrilling encounter as their opponent managed to grab the President’s Cup for their native land, Ivory Coast. The game was held in honour of Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

ASEC Mimosas scored first in the 13th minute with a goal from Jao, who made no mistake as he calmly made sure the ball found the target.

After going up by a goal in the early minutes, the Ivorian side added more energy to their chances to keep the lead intact with a second goal in the 26th minute, which silenced the home side.

Asante Kotoko fought a good fight to stage a comeback in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to give them an edge over their opponents.

Steven Mukwala’s goal in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 looked like a chance for the Porcupine Warriors to get back into action, but the defensive line of ASEC Mimosas prevented that.
