President Akufo-Addo has mentioned that as Ghana readies to officially open the 13th African Games, the country is prepared to draw inspiration from Ivory Coast’s stellar performance in both the organization and success during the just AFCON tournament.

“On Friday, March 8th, the 13th African Games will be officially opened in Accra. And we shall be hosting 53 African nations that will participate in the games. We’ve gone through a lot of trouble and expense to be able to stage the games. And we are expecting it to be a success ,” he said

In his address during the 67th Independence Day celebration at Koforidua in the Eastern Region, President Akufo-Addo eulogized the President of Ivory Coast, Mr. Alassane Outtara who was a Guest Speaker at the anniversary. He praised the efforts of Ivory Coast for putting up an unprecedented hosting of the football tournament.

“Football attempts to attract more attention; therefore, the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire dominated the headlines for the one month it took place. The Ivorian national team, the elephants, defied all odds and won the competition. I am not promising a clean sweep of track and field; that will be a miracle”, he added.

He further promised patrons of the African Games which Ghana is hosting for the first time, a better experience from the beginning to the end. The official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, February 8, 2024 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
