Ghana@67: Melcom supports Volta, Akosombo flood victims to honour founder

In memory of Chairman Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani on Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebrations, Melcom Care Foundation, the main Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative Platform for the Group has extended a hand of support to Akosombo flood victims in two Districts of the Volta Region on humanitarian grounds.

The districts; South Tongu and Ketu South walked away with Rice, cooking oil, Drinks toiletries plus other items worth thousands of Ghana cedis. 

The Director of communication at the Melcom Group of companies Godwin Avenorgbo in his address noted that, “we have been made aware that quite a number of people in the South Tongu and Ketu South Districts have lost their homes and personal belongings and are perching with family and friends even as at now and “in our response to humanity, extending a hand of support to two out of the four districts of the Volta Region which were badly affected by the Volta Dam Spillage”.

Mr. Avenorgbo who was speaking at the ceremony in Accra to remember the founder of Melcom Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani on Ghana’s 67th Independence Day, acknowledged the man he referred to as a visionary leader whose love for Ghana grew beyond bounds right from his youthful days….. “Mr. Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani had a very creative mind backed by enviable business acumen”.

”He salutes Melcom Staff for hard work and dedication to work and “with you, we have come this far because of one underlying reason: Management and Workers pulling resources and effort together in unison” he added.

He therefore, congratulated the Board and Management for demonstrating leadership and accountability, while guiding work ethics in the direction of higher productivity.

“This in sum has been the most important guiding force in lifting the Melcom brand from a single unit in the Accra business district into a nationwide incomparable shopping edifices of international value and recognition. Every worker of the Melcom Group deserves a portion of the pie of commendation for, it is you, you and you whose toil through the sun, rain and dust moves the business forward” he added.

The MP for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie who received the items was grateful to Melcom and promised to continue to shop at Melcom.

She appealed to the business to learn from Melcom to invest in Ghana and create jobs for the youth. She admonished the staff to be good citizens and not desist from activities like stealing and other corrupt practices that will bring Ghana to its knees today or tomorrow.

On his part, a Senior Citizen and the representative of Torgbui Kadzi Zogah II, the Paramount Chief of Sokpoe Traditional Area who also doubled as a Chairman Toungu Chiefs Union, Prosper Adamaley received the items for South Tongu. He thanked Melcom and narrated the disaster and how they mobilized resources home and abroad to support affected people and families.

He prayed that there would never again be such a disaster with that magnitude to visit them.

:”hose of us who come from the Lower Volta Basin Area would have noticed that, that was the heaviest flood ever witnessed”.
