The Minister for Sports, Mustapha Ussif, says Ghana has received  commendation from participating countries for putting up a world class facility for the hosting of the 13th African Games

The Minister made the point in an interview at the University of Ghana, during an update on the Games.

Ghana is hosting 50 countries in 29 disciplines from the African continents.

The Minster noted that the facility, which is of a world class standard, provides the athletes with the opportunity to train for future competitions.

”Fellow Sports Ministers from other countries are happy with Ghana for the wonderful facility put up for the 13th African Games.”

”The President of Ghana Badminton Federation, Evans Yeboah says Ghana has been given the certification of hosting international competitions since Ghana is the only country after Mauritius to have this high-class modern facility in Africa for Badminton.”

On sustainability of the current athletes, the Minister said the government has adopted what he calls “Adopt the athletes initiative” to sustain the current just as Nigeria has.

”This initiative will be in partnership with corporate institutions to adapt athletes from any discipline of their choice to nature and sponsor them to become matured athletes for future competitions,” Mr Yusuf said.

”This is going to be done in collaboration with the various federations to ensure the initiative yields positive results.”

Mawuko Afaginu, President of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation, said this initiative would not be shelved but rather embraced to propel sustainability.
