The National Labour Commission (NLC), has ordered the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), to call off their nationwide strike declared on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

A statement by the Commission’s Chairperson, Justice Asuman-Adu, noted that the order is in view of the fact that the declaration is not in compliance with Section 159 of Act 651.

Three teacher unions, namely GNAT, NAGRAT, and the CCT, declared a nationwide strike effective Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

According to the executives of the three teacher unions, their decision to embark on a nationwide strike was a result of the government’s refusal to address their conditions of service.

The National President of GNAT, Mr. Isaac Owusu, addressing a cross section of journalists in Accra on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, highlighted key grievances, which include the ongoing withholding of teachers’ salaries, unilateral changes to timetables without consulting the unions, and delays in the distribution of laptops to teachers.

Meanwhile, the Unions are expected to meet the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission over their demands.
