The Ministry of Energy has denounced recent reports suggesting that Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s remarks on the issuance of a load-shedding timetable were intentionally misrepresented by the media to depict him as insensitive.
Yesterday, March 25, 2024, amidst Ghana’s ongoing power challenges, Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh issued a challenge to those advocating for a structured load-shedding timetable from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking at the inauguration of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh challenged critics to devise their own load-shedding timetable if they deemed it necessary. He questioned the logic behind such demands when ECG has consistently stated that no timetable is forthcoming.
Kofi Abrefa Afena, a spokesperson for the Energy Ministry, reaffirmed the minister’s stance in a press release on March 26, emphasizing the government’s rejection of the need for a “load management timetable.”
He stated that this position, supported by the Electricity Company of Ghana, is grounded in ongoing efforts to address the root causes of the temporary power challenges.
The Energy Ministry emphasized that Minister Opoku Prempeh has always shown sensitivity to the plight of the Ghanaian people and continues to appeal for their patience, as has been customary during periods of power stability challenges.
