Ghana Post to unveil Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commemorative stamps to celebrate 25 years of reign as Asante King

Ghana Post to unveil commemorative stamps to honour the 25-year reign of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

This came to light at a media launch in Accra.

The stamps project aims to honour and memorialize the remarkable contributions of Otumfuo to the Asante Kingdom and Ghana as a whole.

It will serve as a symbol of his legacy for generations to come.

A commemorative stamp or stamps serve as powerful tools to honour and remember significant figures.

They are not merely postage stamps but symbols of cultural remembrance and historical appreciation. They also embody the immortalization of historical figures and events, ensuring that their legacies endure generations.

The Asantehene’s Commemorative Stamps hold immense significance both culturally and historically serving as a tangible tribute to the rich heritage and enduring legacy of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Managing Director of Ghana Post, Bice Osei Kuffour addressing the media noted that, the commemorative stamps transcend their functional role as postage stamps. He said they stand as symbols of the deep respect and admiration that Ghana holds for Asante Kingdom and its esteemed leader.

Mr. Osei Kuffour stressed that, the stamps which will be officially launched on 4th May 2024 at the Menhyia Palace in Kumasi will not only be a collector’s item but also an educational tool that offer insights into Ghana’s history, culture, and traditions. He said, it will help preserve the legacy of the Asante Kingdom for future generation.

“Let this stamp stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Ghanaians, a symbol of resilience to resist the oppressor’s rule and a reminder that our roots are the foundation upon which our future is built,” he said.

On his part, the Chief Director and the Administrative Head at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Alexander Arphul who represented the sector minister, emphasized that the introduction of the commemorative stamps is a reflection of Ghana’s National pride and identity. He said, it serves as a reminder of the inextricable link between Ghana’s traditional values and the modern aspirations.

He lauded Ghana Post for the initiative and added that, Otumfuo has over the years impacted lives through education by offering scholarships to about 10,000 students, and has undertaken numerous developmental projects especially in the area of healthcare, water, and sanitation.

The Otumfuo Commemorative Stamps will include, Standard stamp- which will be a definitive and commemorative, crypto stamp, stamp album, framed gold stamp, and postcards.
