The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed outright an alleged tape recording between the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame and one Mr. Richard Jakpa a third accused in the ongoing ambulance case.
The NPP described a secret tape recording presented by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeking to corroborate allegations that the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame has been unethical in his prosecution of Jakpa and two others in the Ambulance procurement case as doctored.
The NDC maintains the audio recording in its possession is a conversation between the third accused person (Richard Jakpa) and the Attorney-General.
Richard Jakpa last week claimed that the Attorney-General had urged him to falsify his testimony against Minority Leader, and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to aid the case against him.
But the NPP, in a quick rebuttal to the NDC’s press conference alleged conversation between Mr Jakpa and Mr Dame was fabricated by the opposition NDC.
“The alleged conversation is supposed to last for 26 minutes, the NDC scheme to play only 16 minutes. The question is where is the rest of the tape,” The NPP asked
A legal practitioner, and member of the NPP legal team, Mr. Frank Davies addressing the media at a press conference on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in response to the NDC’s revelations, stated that the tape contained repetitions, overlaps, and voice distortions.
According to him, the NDC had spent the past days manipulating the alleged tape they played.
“It is no wonder that even this afternoon, instead of commencing the press conference at 2, they had to wait till about 3:00 because they were still doctoring. We haven’t doctored, we are presenting to you the facts as they are,” he claimed
Mr Davies argued that the Attorney-General never requested the third accused to falsify any evidence in the prosecution’s favour, even in the alleged doctored tape produced by the NDC.
“You all heard the tape – where did the Attorney-General lure the third accused person to profer evidence against the first accused? With the load of evidence before the court, how can the Attorney-General?”
Even though the NPP claimed the audio recording played by the NDC was doctored, it failed to play the original audio recording it had.
