The ECOWAS Resident Representative to Ghana, Baba Gana Wakil, has emphasised the need to prioritise Special Education to enhance inclusion and holistic development.
He said the education of persons with special needs and disabilities has usually been relegated to the background, a situation that does not engender all-inclusive growth.
Mr. Wakil noted that such persons have crucial roles to play in society and must be accorded their rights at all times. He made this observation when he presented some items to the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.
Presenting the items, the ECOWAS Resident Representative to Ghana, Baba Gana Wakil, highlighted the need for society to help create a conducive environment at the Dzorwulu Special School to foster effective teaching and learning. He said efforts that promote the needs of special people align with the social inclusion agenda of ECOWAS.
“What I am doing here today is what my colleagues, the ambassadors of ECOWAS, are doing across the sub-region. We pay special attention to these people to ensure that they’re not left behind in our journey to develop our region.” Mr. Wakil stated.
He paid tribute to representatives from other countries who are all contributing to the development of education in the sub-region.
The Headteacher of the Dzorwulu Special School, Frederick Tetteh, expressed gratitude to ECOWAS for putting smiles on the faces of the teachers and students.
“For the Dzorwulu special school to be selected for assistance is an indication that the school is not joking with its social inclusion agenda. We will continue to pray for ECOWAS so that the unity among the member states will grow from strength to strength.”
He pledged to ensure that the relationship established with ECOWAS will be nurtured and strengthened for the benefit of the school and society.
