A vigil was last night held by many Christians at their various churches to usher in the New Year, 2019.

The service which lasted for about four hours was used to pray for good health and prosperity of Ghana to move from its present position to a better economic class through infrastructure and industrialization.

The congregants, clad in white as a sign of victory in the past year, also sang and danced joyously to thank God for adding another year to their ages.

Preaching the sermon at the Calvary Methodist Church at Koforidua Effiduase in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Circuit Superintendent Minister of the Church, Very Rev Joseph Maxwell Osei, exhorted the congregants to affirm their faith in Christ that He will protect them against all perils to sail through in the New year.

He implored them to take spiritual stock of their past and remove all shackles that made them fall as Christians.

Very Rev Osei assured them of positive things this New Year and urged them also to draw closer to God in order to conquer Satan and overcome the challenges that confront them such as poverty, diseases and hunger, among others.

The congregants prayed for the president and his cabinet as well as those occupying high positions in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Present at the service was the MCE for the New Juaben Municipality, Comfort Asante.
