Volta FA starts Middle League with colourful opening ceremony

On Saturday, June 22, 2023, a colourful opening ceremony took place at the Ho Sports Stadium in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital.

The event attracted hundreds of fans and enthusiasts as the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) officially opened the Middle League, which marks the third and final phase of the ongoing Regional Division Two League.

The event was remarkable as the flags of all eight participating teams were proudly displayed, accompanied by the Ewe patriotic song “Mia denyigba lorlorla”, signaling the tournament’s readiness. 

The event attracted a packed crowd of dignitaries, football connoisseurs, and enthusiasts to the 5,000-capacity stadium. 

The Division Two Middle League is the biggest weeklong football festival in the region and seeks to promote a Division Two team to the national Division One League.

The league started in January, with 70 teams participating from the preliminary stage through the sub-middle league.

The Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Madam Joyce Datsa, performed the ceremonial kick, urging all stakeholders to deliver with excellence.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Divine Bosson, reiterated his commitment to the development of football infrastructure in the Ho municipality, announcing the construction of two new Astro Turfs at the two public institutions in the municipality. I.e., Ho Technical University and the University of Health and Allied Sciences. 

An initiative the MCE said he is convinced would enhance the quality of play and performance of footballers in the region.

The VRFA chairman and host, Mr. Daniel Agbogah, expressed confidence that the 2023/24 Middle League would once again showcase the region’s pool of football talent and progress in the development of football in the Volta Region. 

He congratulated and wished the participating teams the best of luck in their quest for a sole slot in the National Division One League.

In attendance were the Patron of the Regional Football Association, Mr. Joe Ayivor; the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu North, Edem Agbana; the Regional Secretary, Promise Ahiagba; and members of the Executive Council.

The stage is now set for a thrilling tournament, and fans can expect exciting matches from the eight participating teams.
