The Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Mr. Rex Asanga, has boasted that many street lights across the Bolgatanga Municipality were not working in the erstwhile Mahama’s administration despite spending so much money to fix them, leaving the town in darkness and vulnerable to crime.

He indicated that the street lights along the library road through the Bishop’s secretariat to the stadium junction have never worked for twenty years.

Mr. Asanga said the situation made people forget that there were street lights along the library-to-Stadium road.

“In the history of the 4th Republic, from 1992 to now, it is under the government of his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo that Bolga has seen the most expanded lightning system in the Bolgatanga Municipality. From Winkogo all the way up to Sumbrungu, this government provided the lights to brighten up the streets,” he explained.

The MCE was responding to some concerns from the public during a live radio discussion at GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The programme, dubbed “Ripples,” sought answers from the MCE in the areas of sanitation and general development in the nicipality. He told the host that the Bolgatanga municipality has seen the best lightning system in the last seven years and promised to work to keep them on.

“Bolgatanga Municipal was a dark street under the previous administration. When I came into office, it was very dark. We had to spend over GHc200,000.00 to revive the dead street lights that were all over the place. We contracted somebody to go round the town to work on the lights,” Mr. Asanga emphasised.
