The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢ 587,236 to six health facilities to provide complimentary dialysis sessions for kidney patients under 18 and over 60 years old.

In a statement signed by the Acting Chief Executive of the NHIA released on Sunday, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye June 30, the NHIA confirmed the disbursement, stating that the hospitals will manage the funds and reimburse patients who made out-of-pocket payments in June.

This move follows the government’s announcement to cover the costs of dialysis treatment for these patient categories.

The beneficiary health facilities include Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to the NHIA, the funds aim to ensure the seamless operation of healthcare services and sustain the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This disbursement marks the first month of implementation of the government’s support for kidney patients, with the NHIA reaffirming its commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all.
