Police in Tamale are investigating the deaths of two boys who went missing on June 22 at Kakpagyili, a suburb of Tamale.
The bodies of those who were both aged, were found in an abandoned saloon car parked by a house in the community. Residents have accused the owner of the house, identified as Malam Madaha, of murdering the children for rituals. But he has denied the accusation.
A police source has also refuted claims that the body parts of eight children were found locked up in a refrigerator in a room in the suspect’s house.
“We received a report on two missing boys at Kakpagyili on June 25, 2024. We also received information that the community had mobilised to go and attack a man they suspected of kidnapping the children, and we moved in to protect the man, his family, and property,” the police source told GBC news in Tamale.
“We picked the man up for interrogation but found no evidence of the kidnapping, so he was discharged,” the source added.
The community later found the bodies of the children in an abandoned vehicle.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high at Kakpagyili as residents believe the children were kidnapped and murdered by Alhaji Abdul Rahman for rituals.
Earlier, a section of one of the houses of the suspect in the community was burnt and a vehicle in the house was also set ablaze.
The Regional Police Command has deployed personnel to the community to maintain law and order.
