The Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo and his team have visited various cocoa-growing communities in the Central Region.
They engaged with cocoa farmers, educated them on best agricultural practices to enhance productivity and introduced new measures COCOBOD is adopting to support the farmers.
The visiting team met with cocoa farmers in different communities at Jacob, Armah and Sampreku in the Nyakrom District at Swedru in the Central Region.
The COCOBOD boss emphasized the importance of adopting good agricultural practices. He also spoke about techniques such as proper land preparation, land types, timely application of fertilizers, and effective pest management strategies.
These practices, he noted, are essential for increasing both the quality and quantity of cocoa production. At a town hall meeting at Gomoa Afransie where the team met with the Gomoaman Cocoa farmers union, the message was simple, and educated the farmers on best agricultural practices to enhance productivity, and introduced new measures being adopted to support the farmers.
The meeting was also an opportunity for the cocoa farmers to get clarity on some of their issues.
At Abiadze Kwekrom in the Adjumako District, the team met with the chiefs and people at a durbar. The community was grateful for the visit and expressed appreciation for COCOBOD’s continued support and guidance.
Many farmers pledged commitment to adopting the recommended practices and measures to boost their production. As the visit concluded, the Chief Executive reaffirmed COCOBOD’s dedication to supporting cocoa farmers and enhancing the growth of the industry.
He assured the farmers of providing the necessary resources and support for higher productivity and better livelihoods.
Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, was happy with the visits, which he says marks a significant step towards improving cocoa farming practices in Ghana and underscores COCOBOD’s commitment to the development and sustainability of the country’s vital cocoa industry.
