A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, led by the Director of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson has rejected the nomination of Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate to NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The CSOs say Dr. Opoku Prempeh did not discharge himself well at the Education and Energy Ministries, hence their disagreement with the NPP over his selection.
The ASEPA Director was speaking at a media briefing in Accra.
“Early July 2024, the new patriotic party in line with their internal mechanism confirmed the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Running Mate to their Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The announcement of Matthew Opoku Prempeh came as a shock to the civil society fraternity considering his performance and conduct as Minister for Education and Minister for Energy.
Almost a week into his nomination and an upcoming flamboyant outdooring in Kumasi later today, it is still very unclear to us in civil society what considerations went into this especially in this crucial moments of dear Country.
Without any prejudices, we believe that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh poses certain character traits and weaknesses that makes him unfit to occupy the second highest position of the land” he said.
