The Member of Parliament for Madina constituency, Lawyer Francis Xavier-Sosu, has donated GHC 50,000 to victims of the recent fire at Madina Market through the Madina Emergency Relief Fund (M.E.R.F), an initiative spearheaded by the MP. The devastating fire caused significant losses for many traders, though no casualties were reported.

The first batch of donations, totaling ten recipients, primarily consisted of women traders, each receiving GHC 5,000 to help them recover from the blaze. The donation ceremony was attended by Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who presented the financial assistance on behalf of Hon. Sosu and M.E.R.F.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the current economic hardships but encouraged affected traders to remain hopeful and emphasized peaceful political participation in the upcoming December 7 elections. She praised Hon. Xavier-Sosu’s performance as a first-term MP dedicated to the welfare of Madina constituents and urged voters to re-elect him.

Hon. Xavier-Sosu reiterated the NDC’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of ordinary Ghanaians and emphasized the importance of supporting former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections. He pledged ongoing assistance to all affected victims and outlined his initiatives, including the Madina Job Center, the Madina Teachers Award, community borehole projects, and impactful legislative efforts.

During the ceremony, several market women publicly announced their decision to switch allegiance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the NDC, expressing their admiration for Hon. Sosu’s effective representation and initiatives.

The Madina Emergency Relief Fund, established by Hon. Francis Xavier-Sosu, aims to mobilize resources to support disaster-affected individuals within the constituency. As efforts to assist all affected victims continue, Hon. Sosu remains committed to advancing legislative reforms and developmental projects to enhance the livelihoods of Madina residents.
