The Chiefs, Soin Tuodar Family, and Tindaamba of Jirapa Duori have launched a movement known as “Dombos for Bawumia” (D4B) 2024 in support of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 presidential bid.
The Chief of Jirapa Duori Traditional Area, Naa Tikang Diedong Dombo, said the traditional area is in support of Dr. Bawumia because he embodies the values of leadership, compassion, integrity, and vision that their former traditional Leader, Chief Simon Diedong Dombo, stood for in time past.
The movement, made up of leaders of the Duori Community, Soin Tuodar family, Tindaamba of Jirapa Duori, and some party faithful across Ghana, started in 2018 in Kumasi and Accra to advocate for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as the next Presidential Candidate.
The movement seeks to canvass votes across Ghana and the diaspora for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia ahead of the December elections.
The movement had representatives across Ghana to assist in championing various activities of the party and its parliamentary candidates.
Speaking at the launch, the National Coordinator of the Movement, Ms Rabiatu Tracy Dombo emphasised that, as a family, they have prioritised the well-being of their community and the nation at large and believe that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership will bring economic growth, improved healthcare, quality education, and opportunities for all Ghanaians.
She urged all Ghanaians to join the movement in supporting Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid to build a brighter future for the country.
“The Dombos for Bawumia 2024 started since 2018, myself and my brothers and sisters began the movement at the time the party had not yet chosen Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the NPP, but the Dombos had already started our own way of campaigning and doing research to know who the next flag bearer will be.
It is an opportunity for us today, and it is great honour done to us that the party has remembered the icon S.D Dombo and they have honoured us with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. So today we are here to say thank you to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the numerous favours he has done the Dombos, especially handing over the mantle to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to step into the shoes of Dombo.
This association started in Kumasi and Accra, and today we have decided to bring it home to outdoor,” Ms Rabiatu Tracy Dombo stated.
Naa Tikang Diedong Dombo, who made the declaration during the launch of Dombos for Bawumia (D4B) Movement in Duori in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region, said his dedication to Ghana’s progress and prosperity aligns with their family’s legacy of service and patriotism.
The Traditional Leader said they are rallying behind him also in honour of their late chief, Simon Diedong Dombo, who was the leader of the major opposition party, the Northern People’s Party.
He stated that it was that party which transformed into the New Patriotic Party today. The Group was optimistic that with unity and hard work “breaking the 8” is possible. There were goodwill messages from representatives of the movement in Tamale, Bono area, Kumasi, and Accra.
