The Ministry of Roads and Highways has launched a new maintenance call centre as well as App targeted to enable citizens to report defect traffic lights, potholes, and other road issues by submitting photos and location details directly from their phones.
This transformative innovation aims to enhance the timely rectification of road-related issues while ensuring road safety infrastructure and efficient accessibility.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, emphasised that, government is committed to improving the road network and making Ghana a transport hub of West Africa.
One of the major concerns of the Ministry for Roads and Highways is to ensure maintenance of road safety network in the county. Accessibility of road networks plays a vital role in trade and commerce, thereby providing more vibrant economic development. The move for the introduction of the innovative maintenance app by the Ministry does not only serve as a strategic tool to combat urban and rural road defects and limitations but also provides sustainable road transportation system for easy supply of goods and services, especially agricultural products, and attracts foreign investors while fostering economic sustainability.
The event was under the theme ‘”Maintain My Road.”
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, further noted, “the mission of the government for this transmative innovation is to enhance road infrastructural development, create employment, and enhance a resilient economy. 60 percent from the Ghana Road Fund will be allocated for pothole patching and urgent maintenance activities such as defects in traffic lights and other road related issues.”
Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry for Roads and Highways, lng. Francis Ahlidzo, underscored the process of accessing the new app.
“An online dashboard will select your location and the challenges in your area when you call, key, or log in with your phone number. The team in charge of the call centre is trained in all local languages to help callers.The call centre is also linked with Urban Roads and key engineers for quick resolution on road challenges.”
The maintenance centre as well as the Innovative app are fully operational now. The Ministry urges all citizens to download the new app, namely “Maintain My Road,” saying active participation and collaborative efforts are crucial in achieving this goal.
