Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo says the Judicial Service will soon set up stand-alone courts for debt recovery cases. This, she said, has become necessary as a result of the huge numbers of debt recovery cases filed at the Courts by companies. The Chief Justice said the first of such courts will be opened at La in Accra next week.

Justice Torkornoo said this during her encounter with Court Correspondents to provide updates on  progress made by the various departments of the Judicial Service and the Law.

Heads and representatives of the Judicial Service Training Institute, Monitoring and Evaluation and Archives made presentations on work progress towards enhancing the work of the Judicial Service and the Courts. Director of Monitoring and Evaluation Papa Maisie said the Judicial Service is exploring the possibility of establishing a Court in every district and fixing those in deplorable state.

Director of IT Noble Nutifafa said the Service has made court judgments accessible to the public electronically. He said judgments are now uploaded on the africanlii.org platform for easy accessibility by the public. Justice Torkornoo said the Service is working assiduously to ensure a better court experience for people who seek justice at the court.

The Chief Justice noted that with the enhancement in the Judicial system, people will be more confident in using legal means to seek redress. She was also grateful to Management of the Judicial Service who continue to support  her vision of improving justice delivery.
