The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to provide free tertiary education to persons living with disabilities. This was announced by the Party’s Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi when he appeared on the ‘Breakfast Show’ on GTV today, August 13, 2024.

“If you’ve passed SHS despite your disability, it’s only fair for the government to support you, and that’s why we will ensure you don’t pay any fees.”

The NDC’s Youth Manifesto, “The Pledge: The John Mahama 2024 Pledge to Young People,” outlines the party’s commitment to implementing a “No-Fees Stress Programme” to alleviate financial burdens on parents and students. The manifesto promises a “No Academic Fees” policy for level 100 students and the redeployment of the Student Loan Trust Fund Plus (SLTF Plus) to support continuing students.

Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama at the Youth Manifesto launch yesterday, indicated that the “No Fee Stress Initiative,” will provide fee-paying support to eligible students through the Student Loan Trust Fund (STLF).

Clarifying how the initiative will work when implemented, Mr Sammy Gyamfi clarified said the NDC will pay the full school fees for first-year students, while continuing students can apply for loans to cover their fees.

He emphasized that persons with disabilities will receive free tertiary education, covering all levels of their studies.

He assured nursing and teacher trainees that, the NDC will also scrap the quota system for admissions into nursing training colleges.
