The Head of the Renal Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr Pediter Okyere, is appealing to the Government for more machines to cater for patients with end-stage renal failure and related disorders.

The Unit is currently overwhelmed with patients trooping in following the rollout of the free dialysis programme for certain age brackets. In this light, the unit has been using the period slated for servicing of machines to cater for patients.

Patient visits to the center have tripled since the rollout of the free dialysis programme and health workers are going the extra mile to attend to the patients.

This has put a strain on the few machines at the Unit.

The Centre currently offers free sessions for persons below 18 years and above 60. Persons in the age bracket are also offered two free sessions per month.
