Ghana, China celebrate 63 years of diplomatic relations, promise effective cooperation for development

A Former Ghana Ambassador to China, Anani Demuyakor, has called for Ghana and China to build on their longstanding relationship by fostering growth and development through cooperation.

Speaking at the 63rd-anniversary celebration of the Treaty of Friendship between Ghana and China in Accra, Ambassador Demuyakor acknowledged that despite differences and challenges, numerous opportunities exist between the two nations that can drive positive socio-economic impacts.

He emphasized the need to harness these opportunities to deepen the healthy relationship that has existed since 1960, promoting mutual benefits and prosperity for both countries.

Ghana and China have enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship based on mutual respect, cooperation, and friendship for 63 years.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1960, the two nations have collaborated in various areas, including trade, investment, infrastructure development, education, and healthcare. In 2013, they signed a strategic partnership agreement to further deepen their cooperation.

Today, China stands as one of Ghana’s largest trading partners, with significant investments in key sectors like mining, construction, and manufacturing.

As the bilateral relationship marks its 63rd anniversary, the former Ambassador to China, Anani Demuyakor, highlighted crucial challenges that need urgent attention to sustain and strengthen their cooperation for mutual development.

He acknowledged China’s immense contributions to Ghana’s development, including substantial financial support and numerous infrastructural projects, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to address existing challenges and foster a brighter future for both nations.

Charge d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy, Li Yang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic recovery.

As the senior diplomat overseeing operations and promoting diplomatic relations between China and Ghana, Li Yang assured that China will take further steps to solidarize Ghana and China’s relations and promote a stronger Pan-African community.

The 63-year-old diplomatic relationship between Ghana and China has been a beacon of hope and cooperation, fostering economic growth, development, and mutual understanding.

As both nations celebrate this milestone anniversary, they acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening their partnership.

With China’s continued support for Ghana’s economic recovery and its pledge to promote a stronger Pan-African community, the future looks bright for this enduring friendship.
