Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has refuted the idea that the peace and outcome of the elections rest solely on the shoulders of the EC Chairperson.

His comments come amid increasing public discussions about the EC’s role in upholding electoral integrity and ensuring a peaceful process.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, Dr Asare urged the public to disregard claims, even from prominent figures, suggesting that the EC Chairperson alone is responsible for securing peaceful elections.

“The suggestion that the peace and the outcome of the election are hinged on the chairperson of the EC is completely untrue.”

“We urge the public to ignore statements even from prominent citizens that suggest that achieving peaceful elections in 2024 is somehow in the bosom of the Chairperson of the EC,” he stated.

His comments come after senior statesman and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, labelled the Electoral Commission (EC) as the greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe voiced serious concerns about the EC’s handling of voter transfers, questioning the legitimacy of the process, particularly how voter transfers are conducted without the direct involvement of the voters themselves.
