Shamima Muslim, a member of the NDC’s Manifesto Committee on Gender and Inclusion, appeared on GTV’s breakfast show on September 3, 2024, to reveal a proposal to establish sixteen domestic violence shelters across Ghana’s sixteen regions.

She emphasized the need for safe spaces where victims of rape, defilement, and assault can access free healthcare services.

According to Shamima, the shelters will be built through private-public partnerships, with the government using its influence to ensure that each region has at least one shelter.

She outlined additional approaches to address violence, including the implementation of the Affirmative Action Bill, which aims to promote gender equality and empower women by addressing systemic barriers.

Shamima also stated that the NDC plans to ensure that all private and public institutions have gender policies, particularly in labor laws.

Shamima mentioned that, they propose amending maternity leave to provide four months of leave for women who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or cesarean section resulting in loss of child, allowing them time to heal.
