During the second sitting of Parliament’s emergency recall on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the former Minority Leaders of Parliament and Member of parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu pointed out the notable exclusion of the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice from the list of high-ranking public officials authorized to use motorcades and sirens in their official vehicles.
This observation was made as the new Road Traffic Legislative Instrument (LI) was presented to Parliament. Addressing the House, the Tamale South MP emphasized the importance of granting the Speaker and the Chief Justice access to motorcades and sirens, citing the need for facilitation in the conduct of their duties.
In response, the MP for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, urged fellow parliamentarians to be bold in demanding privileges that enable them to effectively carry out their responsibilities. According to him Parliamentarians need not be belittled by the public because every financial obligations of the country passes through the Chambers for approval before it can be used for developmental and other projects for the country.
