Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) presidential candidate, Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has outlined bold promises on unemployment benefits and youth empowerment as part of his manifesto, ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking on GTV’s Manifesto Watch, hosted by Maltiti Sayida Sadick on the GTV Breakfast Show, Akpaloo highlighted key policies that focus on reducing unemployment, improving social welfare, and driving competition in the energy sector.

A central feature of his manifesto is the introduction of unemployment benefits to aid jobless Ghanaians. Akpaloo emphasized that approximately 1.9 million youth in Ghana are currently without jobs, posing a significant security threat. To address this, he aims to establish a Job Fund to support young people with funding for innovative ventures.

“We will set up a job fund when voted into power. Our youth have the vision, so I will give them the needed funding,” Akpaloo stated, stressing his commitment to creating a land of opportunities. He also promised to end the practice where people are dismissed from jobs when a new political party comes into power, ensuring job security for all.

Beyond youth-focused initiatives, Akpaloo pledged to cover the elderly with benefits, ensuring they live dignified lives. He also discussed plans to restructure Ghana’s energy sector by breaking the monopoly of the Electricity Company of Ghana into five or six competitive companies to enhance service delivery.

Akpaloo was confident of his chances in the upcoming elections, asserting, “I will win this year’s election. People will see how serious I am when I win the elections.”

He also touched on controversial topics such as illegal mining, or “galamsey,” stating that his government would bring galamsey operators together to venture into large-scale mining, providing a more sustainable solution to the issue.

As the election campaign heats up, Akpaloo has positioned himself as a champion of economic opportunities and social benefits, determined to make Ghana a land of prosperity under his leadership.
