The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra in Collaboration with the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious-Ghana (CMSR-GH) has declared 11th October 2024, a day for all Catholics in Ghana to embark on the environmental prayer walk against galamsey.
In a press release, the Church says the religious groups will embark on a symbolic journey through the streets of Accra to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of galamsey activities on the environment.
During the walk, a petition will be sent to the presidency at the Jubilee’s House, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced environmental measures.
They encourages all priests, religious and lay faithful to be present during the walk.
The move will be a demonstration of faith, activism and community participation will “serve as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding our natural resources for future generations”, the statement noted.
