Minerals Commission to appear before Assurances Committee of Parliament

The Assurances Committee of Parliament has directed the Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi  to furnish the Committee with information, which were agreed when he appeared before the Committee on Monday. 

A statement signed by the Head of Governance Cluster Committee on Assurances, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, said the information will aid the work of the Committee in the preparation of its report. 

Among the information requested, is a reconciliation of inconsistent data on mining licenses, as well as detailed breakdown of the reconciled data on licenses. This should include a list of all companies, where their concessions are located and whether their licenses are active. Also, data on licenses issued which have not been ratified by Parliament, a list of new licenses issued and renewals, as well as a list of categories of Mineral Rights granted by the Commission. 

In addition, the information is expected to state the number of licenses, if any, granted under LI 2462 with the approval of the President, provide data to demonstrate the evidence of adequate mining inspectors engaged and a report on Kandema and Funbisi Resettlement, as well as, detailed data on revoked licenses and circumstances for the revocation. 

Other information required is a list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, MMDCEs, who have been granted mining concessions aside those mentioned in the course of proceedings.

The statement said all the information requested should reach the Secretariat not later than Monday, October 14, 2024.
